MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent, dropping it from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.
The South African company recently revealed that the decision is aimed at attracting more customers amid the declining subscriptions.
Speaking via a press statement, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, disclosed that the price slash is Multichoice’s way of rewarding customer loyalty and delivering improved value to its subscribers.
He emphasised the need to ensure Nigerian DSTV users feel appreciated, stressing that their new “We Got You” campaign will go a long way towards making premium content more accessible for customers in Nigeria.
According to him, the company will keep encouraging content discovery across a wider array of genres, meaning more channels and shows will be added in the near future.
“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.
By repositioning itself as a platform for daily value, DStv aims to encourage content discovery across a wider array of genres, including movies, drama, kids’ programming, and news.
This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” he said.
DSTV also announced a promotional offer granting subscribers a free upgrade to the next DStv package tier if they pay for their current plan in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025.
John further noted that the price slash is a response “to the noticeable economic impact on the everyday lives of Nigerians.”
This is coming after the company lost 1.4 million Nigerian subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.
