Manchester United legend, Teddy Sheringham, has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to return to Old Trafford very soon. He believes the current manager, Ruben Amorim has not done enough to prove he is the right man for the job.
Speaking during an interview with Casino Hawks, Teddy revealed that Ole was right to conclude that he was harshly treated when he got the sack many years ago because MUFC has only gone downhill since then. He said Ole was clearly trying to bring back Sir Alex Ferguson’s winning mentality when he was in charge, but the hierarchy wrongly felt otherwise.
According to him, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keeps performing well with Besiktas in Turkey, he expects him to get another chance as MUFC manager to finish what he started after the club parted ways with Jose Mourinho.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought he was harshly treated when he got the sack and now Manchester United are still looking at the solution to get back to winning ways.
“He thought he was bringing that back, but the hierarchy didn’t think so. Looking at where they are now, the situation that Ole and his team are in doesn’t look so bad. Looking forward, I’m sure he’ll be champing at the bit if he keeps doing well to maybe come back to the club for a second spell as manager,” he said.
Sheringham is of the opinion that Ruben Amorim has not shown any sign that he can take Manchester United to the next level, and he does not understand why his team constantly plays out from the back to increase the pressure on an already-fagile backline.
He maintained that things are not looking up under the Portuguese coach, and it might be time to start considering a change to salvage the coming season for the Red Devils.
“Has Ruben Amorim done enough to prove he is the right man for the job? Well, not really. You’re looking for signs to say, yeah, things are looking up, but it’s really not. Things are not looking great. It’s the same mistakes and the same people making mistakes, the goalkeepers constantly as fault.
“I know it sounds dinosaurish, but why is there all this playing out from the back? In areas where you are only going to increase pressure on yourself, that’s what I cannot understand,” he added.
