As the May 29 date draws near, for
President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) to hand over power to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former President of Igbo think tank group, Aka Ikenga,
Chief Goddy Uwazurike, has said despite the promise of superlative performance by the outgoing administration, it “slumped miserably”.
Uwazurike, while responding to the Buhari’s eight years administration’s in power, during a chat with Apple’s Bite, stressed that the “President Muhammadu Buhari of 2015-2023 that I know is not different from General Muhammadu Buhari of 1984-1985”.
According to Aka Ikenga’s former President, “we had a horrible and eccentric economic experience in Nigeria during the earlier coming to power. Things were so bad that the slogan was “checking out. Today, the slogan is ‘Japa’.
“PMB was received as a messiah or deity by the party, the young, and many Northern opinion molders. To the 3 groups, it’s a no-no to President Goodluck Jonathan.
“So the expectations were sky high. Sadly, Buhari was very high on promises and very low on delivery.”
Uwazurike explained that initially, the lowest-paid civil service worker earned N18,000.00.
“Out of this, he purchased a bag of rice at N7000., provided a monthly housekeeping allowance, provided for his transport fare and still had some money to save.
“Today, the lowest paid worker earns N30,000 but cannot afford to purchase a bag of rice, not to talk of other commitments. “Our foreign exchange rate and petrol have rocketed sky high. Our health care is in tatters. Free and fare elections are not there.
“In all fairness to PMB, he anchored his administration on the economy, security and anti-corruption fight. “Today, all 3 areas are in a disaster. In simple language, the savior of Nigeria has failed irredeemably,” he asserted.
