Violence broke out on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, forcing delegates, party members, and supporters to flee the venue.
The disruption occurred shortly before voting was expected to begin for the party’s House of Representatives primary for Mushin Constituency II.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), tension remained high around the area as of the time of reporting, while the exercise had not commenced.
Sources indicated that confusion started after disagreements emerged among supporters of some aspirants, leading to chaos at the venue.
The situation escalated into a stampede as delegates and party faithful rushed out to avoid further confrontation.
Among the leading contenders in the race are the incumbent lawmaker, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who is seeking re-election, and Seye Oladejo, alongside other aspirants vying for the party ticket.
Several party members expressed concern over the development and called on APC leaders and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible primary process.
As of the time of filing this report, party officials had not released any official statement on the incident. The APC is currently holding primaries across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
