In the latest release of Forbes’ 20th annual ranking on Tuesday, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and media tycoon Mo Abudu have earned places among the world’s 100 most powerful women.
Nigerian economist Okonjo-Iweala claimed the 87th position on the prestigious list, while Abudu, a newcomer to the rankings, secured the 98th spot. Forbes determined the rankings based on four key criteria: spheres of influence, financial impact, media presence, and overall societal influence.
Okonjo-Iweala, with an illustrious career spanning the World Bank, Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance, and her current role at the World Trade Organization, has consistently advocated for inclusive economies by recognizing and incorporating women’s unique perspectives in economic planning.
Forbes also commended Abudu, the trailblazing founder of Ebony Life Media, for her transformative contributions to Nollywood with films like “Elesin Oba,” “The King’s Horseman,” and “The Wedding Party.”
Notably, Abudu and Okonjo-Iweala are currently collaborating on the production of the documentary series “Black, Brilliant, and Bold” for Netflix.
These two remarkable women represent the sole Nigerian entries on the list, reaffirming their global impact and influence across various fields.
