A devastating explosion tore through a mosque at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday, claiming multiple lives and injuring several worshippers.
The blast occurred while prayers were underway, sending shockwaves through the densely populated commercial district and sparking widespread panic among traders and residents.
Witnesses described scenes of devastation as the explosion ripped through a section of the mosque, killing worshippers on the spot and leaving many others seriously wounded. Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the building as people scrambled to safety, with some bystanders rushing to help the injured before emergency teams could reach the scene.
Security forces quickly sealed off the area to prevent additional casualties and conduct an initial investigation into the incident.
At press time, official casualty figures had not been released by authorities.
