DHL Aviation has bolstered its Nigerian logistics operations with the introduction of two fully branded Boeing 737-400 aircraft, unveiled at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
According to a company statement, the expanded air capacity represents part of DHL’s continued investment in Sub-Saharan Africa’s logistics infrastructure. The addition is designed to reduce transit times, enhance delivery reliability, and broaden DHL’s service coverage for businesses throughout West Africa and neighboring regions.
The move responds to increasing demand from West African enterprises across multiple industries, including e-commerce, perishables, energy, and life sciences and healthcare sectors.
Anthony Beckley, VP Operations and Aviation at DHL Express SSA, commented on the expansion: “As the African Continental Free Trade Area drives trade growth across the continent, businesses require reliable transit times and consistent delivery standards. These two dedicated aircraft will join DHL Aviation’s African air network, reinforcing vital connections along key Africa-Europe and Africa-Asia commercial routes.”
The aviation investment aligns with DHL’s wider sustainability objectives, the company stated. DHL is advancing digital innovation through AI-powered route optimization and electronic customs platforms, while testing renewable energy solutions and alternative fuel initiatives at its facilities to meet environmental targets.
Riaan Vorster, Aviation Senior Director at DHL Aviation SSA, added, “This investment underscores DHL Express’s commitment to serving as the preferred logistics partner for businesses expanding within regional and international supply chains.”
