The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed reports that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was kidnapped by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, clarifying that he was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant.
The Police said Sowore was not kidnapped, contrary to claims circulating on social media that armed political thugs abducted him and his whereabouts were unknown.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, the Command explained that preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.
According to the Police, Sowore reportedly had an altercation with some individuals at the restaurant, prompting people at the scene to alert security operatives.
The Command said its officers responded immediately, mobilised to the location and successfully rescued the AAC presidential candidate.
However, the Police disclosed that Sowore sustained a minor injury during the incident and was receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation is also expected to identify everyone involved and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
The Police Command urged residents and members of the public to remain calm and disregard reports suggesting that Sowore was kidnapped.
It also warned against sharing unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic, confusion and tension in the state.
The Command further assured residents that it remains committed to protecting lives and property, regardless of political affiliation, social status or background.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Command, SP Abutu Sunday, ANIPR, on October 30, 2026.
The Police maintained that Sowore was rescued after a restaurant altercation and not abducted, as alleged in the reports circulating on social media.
