The Federal Government says it has secured about 150 convictions within the first two days of the latest phase of its nationwide terrorism trial exercise.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where multiple terrorism-related cases are being heard simultaneously across 10 courtrooms.

Fagbemi explained that the exercise, which began on Monday, recorded around 160 trials on the first day, with about 150 resulting in convictions.

“Yesterday, we had about 160 trials. I think about 150 convictions,” he said.

He added that proceedings continued into Tuesday with roughly 300 cases before the courts, while about 84 additional cases were expected to be concluded within the day.

According to him, the sessions would continue beyond Tuesday, with hearings scheduled to run through Thursday as part of an ongoing coordinated judicial process.

The Attorney-General urged Nigerians to remain patient, stressing that the exercise reflects the government’s commitment to justice, accountability, and the fight against terrorism.

He also described the current phase as the fourth round of mass terrorism trials under the present administration, warning that terrorism in any form would not be tolerated.

“The message is clear, direct and straightforward… terrorism in whatever form or shape will not be tolerated,” Fagbemi said.

The prosecution is being led by the Attorney-General’s office, while the defence is coordinated by the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar.

The trials are being overseen by several Federal High Court judges, including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan, with proceedings taking place across multiple courtrooms in Abuja.

The current phase of the exercise is expected to last about one week and follows an earlier round held in April, during which hundreds of suspected terrorists were also prosecuted.
