The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has stated that Nigeria’s next president ahead of the 2027 general elections has already been determined by God.
Speaking on Saturday at a workers’ meeting held at the Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Adeboye emphasised that the outcome of the election ultimately rests on divine will rather than human effort.
According to him, while political participation is important, Nigerians must recognise that God remains sovereign over the affairs of the nation. He urged citizens not to be anxious about the political future of the country but to remain prayerful and trust in God’s plan.
Adeboye said the role of individuals is to contribute responsibly while leaving the final outcome in God’s hands, stressing that faith and peace should guide citizens as political activities intensify ahead of 2027.
The cleric also addressed remarks attributed to activist Omoyele Sowore, who reportedly referred to Adeboye, David Oyedepo, and William Kumuyi as “fathers of Christians” in Nigeria. Adeboye rejected the label, clarifying that he only sees himself as a spiritual leader within the RCCG.
He noted that leadership of Christians in Nigeria is vested in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), whose president serves as the national representative of the Christian community.
On claims circulating on social media that the RCCG is aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeboye dismissed the suggestion, insisting that the church is independent and has consistently spoken on national issues, including economic challenges.
He added that while politicians are free to attend church services, they are not permitted to use the altar for political campaigns. Adeboye further stated that he would support any peaceful protest organised by CAN if it addresses governance concerns, noting that he had participated in protests during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
