The family of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to provide scholarships up to university level for children and dependants of people who lost their lives during the August 15 governorship election in the state.
Adeleke made the announcement on Wednesday while reflecting on his electoral victory and the presentation of his Certificate of Return.
The governor said the certificate represented more than his personal achievement, describing it as a symbol of the confidence and support of the people of Osun State.
He also said the celebrations surrounding his victory must not overshadow the losses suffered by families affected by violence during the election.
According to him, the Osun State Government has established a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund to assist people affected by electoral violence.
Adeleke added that his family would complement the government’s intervention by sponsoring the education of children and dependants of those who died during the election.
“As we celebrate, we must also remember those who lost their lives and those affected by electoral violence. We have launched a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund to support victims of these incidents, while the Adeleke family will provide scholarships up to university level for the children and dependants of those who lost their lives,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to Osun residents for what he described as their courage, trust and commitment to democracy.
He said the outcome of the election was a victory for the people of the state and pledged to move forward with them.
“This victory belongs to you. This certificate belongs to you. Osun, we move forward together,” Adeleke added.
