Distinguished African leaders from politics and business gathered at The Delborough Lagos on Tuesday for Flutterwave’s inaugural Gala Night, celebrating a decade of financial technology innovation.
The February 11, 2026 event transformed the luxury venue into a meeting point for continental excellence, bringing together former presidents, government officials, business magnates, and entertainment icons.
Notable attendees included former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The business community was well represented by Coscharis Group Founder Dr. Cosmas Maduka, MTN Nigeria Board Chairman Ernest Ndukwe, and Stanel Group Founder and Delborough Lagos CEO Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu.
Entertainment stars Tiwa Savage, actress Omotola Jalade, and former Big Brother Naija contestants Dorathy and Erica added glamour to the occasion, alongside other distinguished guests from diverse sectors.
Flutterwave Founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola used the platform to reflect on the company’s journey, describing the gala as a tribute to excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurial growth across the continent.
Agboola revealed that frustration with Africa’s inefficient cross-border payment systems drove him to establish Flutterwave in 2016. He highlighted the absurdity of pre-Flutterwave transactions, when sending money from Lagos to Accra electronically was so complicated that physically flying cash between the cities proved more practical—with digital transfers routing through New York before reaching Ghana.
The dignitaries, including Obasanjo, Koroma, Sanwo-Olu, and Maduka, delivered congratulatory messages praising Agboola’s determination and vision, acknowledging his role in positioning Nigeria and Africa as serious players in the global fintech landscape.
