President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, leading to the exit of two cabinet members and the appointment of new officials.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will step down from his position. He is to be replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
In a related development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will also exit the cabinet. His role in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will be temporarily overseen by the Minister of State, pending the confirmation of a new appointee.
The President has nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the incoming Minister for Housing and Urban Development.
According to the directive, all handover processes must be concluded by the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the changes are intended to enhance coordination within the administration and improve the delivery of economic policies under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the President exercised his constitutional authority in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The Presidency expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their contributions and wished them success in their future pursuits, while also assuring that further adjustments to strengthen governance may follow.
