Policy makers and key industry operators are set to discuss the challenges facing domestic crude oil refining in Nigeria at the CORAN 2025 Summit. The discussion is set to happen at the upcoming 2nd Nigeria Refining Summit, being hosted by the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN).
Engr. Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), is set to headline the star-studded lineup of confirmed speakers during the event.
Speaking alongside him would be Mrs Nkechi Obi, Group Managing Director of TechnoOil; Mr Temi Omatseye, Executive Chairman of Polmaz Logistics and former Director-General of NIMASA; Dr Ibilola Amao, Principal Consultant of Lonadek Global Services; and Begna Gebreyes, Head of Heavy Industries, Telecoms & Technology (HITT) at Africa Finance Corporation, alongside other energy experts.
The Summit will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, and operators across the nation to lead conversations that will transform Nigeria into a force to be reckoned with in the global energy sector.
Despite manufacturing more than 1.4 million barrels of crude oil daily, Nigeria spends more than $10 billion yearly on fuel imports.
The Summit aims to speed up the shift from dependence to dominance by enhancing Nigeria’s refining capacity, guaranteeing sustainable crude supply, and aligning operations with global environmental standards.
Speaking ahead of the event, CORAN Chairman, Engr. Momoh Oyarekhua revealed that the nation has what it takes to be a refining powerhouse in Africa.
“Refining is no longer a national aspiration; it’s a shared mission for Nigeria’s energy future. By combining the strengths of mega-refineries, modular facilities, and state-owned assets, we will not only achieve self-sufficiency but position Nigeria as the refining hub of Africa,” he said.
The Summit’s Strategic Dialogue will convene vital players to tackle crude supply bottlenecks, explore fiscal incentives, and foster public-private partnerships.
CORAN 2025 will not be yet another futile gathering; it will be a major catalyst for sustainable transformation.
