A Former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East District, Engr. Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed profound grief over the death of Dr. Doyin Okupe, a prominent physician, politician, and former presidential aide who passed away today after weeks of critical illness.
Dr. Okupe, a native of Iperu in Ogun State, died at the age of 72, just 15 days before what would have been his 73rd birthday. Throughout his distinguished career, he served Nigeria in various capacities, most notably as a presidential adviser to multiple administrations.
In his heartfelt tribute, Senator Daniel characterized Dr. Okupe as “a bold, articulate, and highly resourceful leader who contributed immensely to national discourse and governance.” The former governor emphasized that Okupe’s passing represents a significant loss not only to Ogun State but to Nigeria as a whole.
“Dr. Okupe was a man of remarkable intellect and unwavering commitment to public service,” Senator Daniel stated. “His contributions to our national development and his dedication to improving governance in Nigeria will not be forgotten.”
The late Dr. Okupe had a multifaceted career that spanned healthcare and politics. As a physician, he was committed to advancing medical care in Nigeria, while his political career saw him serve at the highest levels of government, where he was known for his forthright approach to national issues.
Senator Daniel has extended his deepest condolences to the Okupe family, the community of Iperu, and all Nigerians affected by this loss. He prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved during this difficult period of mourning.
Funeral arrangements for Dr. Doyin Okupe will be announced by the family in due course.
