The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday made its way to the Abuja residence of Senator Rochas Okorocha (APC, Imo West).
The anti-graft agency asked the former governor of Imo to submit himself for arrest or honor a long-standing invitation to its office for questioning over allegations of money laundering.
Operatives of the EFCC barricaded the residence of the presidential aspirant, insisting that none of the members of Okorocha’s family would be allowed to leave the compound until they produce the former governor.
The agents began screening people going out and coming into the premises. it was also gathered that they warned the mobile policemen attached to Okorocha to withdraw from the residence.
Okorocha is alleged to have laundered N2.9 billion while he was governor. The EFCC filed fresh charges against him on January 31, 2022, at the Federal High Court in Abuja about the same time the lawmaker declared his intention to run for the office of president in 2023.
But the ex-governor has since denied any wrongdoing, adding that it was politically motivated.
He also obtained a court order to prevent his arrest.
