An explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, damaged a staff quarters building on Tuesday morning, though no lives were lost in the incident, according to state police.
The blast, which occurred in the early hours, prompted immediate deployment of security forces to the area. Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman confirmed that all occupants had evacuated the building before the explosion occurred.
“Security operatives quickly secured the area to prevent any further threat,” Usman stated, adding that a joint security team including police, military personnel, and vigilante operatives established a cordon around the hospital premises.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit have been deployed to examine the site and determine what caused the blast.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical units to the area to maintain security and provide reassurance to residents who were left shaken by the incident.
Investigations are currently underway, with authorities promising to release further information as the inquiry progresses. Police have urged the public to stay away from the hospital grounds to allow investigators to work without interference.
