The Federal Government has approved a new consolidated salary structure for employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), alongside updated conditions of service.
The approval was conveyed through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
According to a letter dated April 29, 2026, signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the new pay structure will take effect from June 1, 2026.
The document indicated that the decision followed a prior request from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission in a letter dated March 23, 2026.
The letter stated that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had approved the recommended consolidated salary structure for NiMet staff, confirming its implementation from the June commencement date.
With this development, employees of the agency will transition to the new salary framework once it comes into force.
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has argued that a monthly salary of ₦1 million would have little impact on workers if Nigeria’s currency remains unstable and the economy weakens.
Speaking in Abuja, Ajaero noted that workers are more concerned about the real value of the naira than nominal wage increases.
