The First Bank Group has announced the appointment of Olukorede Adenowo as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank UK, effective from November 16, 2023, subject to regulatory approvals. Prior to this role, Adenowo served as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Nigeria, joining the Corporate Banking sector in 1999.
Throughout his career, Adenowo held pivotal positions, including MD/CEO of SCB Gambia, Deputy MD/CEO of SCB Cameroon, and MD of Corporate Commercial and Institutional Banking for SCB Nigeria and West Africa. Recognized for his exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and profound understanding of the global financial landscape, Adenowo brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the banking industry across multiple countries.
In addition to his executive roles, the newly appointed CEO served as a Non-Executive Director of SCB Gambia and SCB Sierra Leone, accumulating over 13 years of invaluable board experience within the Chartered Bank Group.

Adenowo’s career commenced at Deloitte Nigeria, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1991. He became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2003 and received a Distinguished Alumnus award from Deloitte Nigeria in 2015. Adenowo is an alumnus of INSEAD and Said Business School, Oxford University, having undergone management training in leadership, and holds an MBA from Lagos Business School.
