FirstBank, a leading financial services provider in West Africa, has announced its sponsorship of Calabar Carnival & Festival 2025, introducing an innovative feature that promises to transform the carnival viewing experience — a specially constructed 500-seat premium bleacher section.
This marks the first time a private premium seating area has been created at the annual event. The custom-built structure aims to offer carnival-goers enhanced comfort, security, and optimal viewing positions throughout the festivities.
Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, explained that the sponsorship reflects the bank’s First@Arts initiative, which champions Nigeria’s creative industries. “The arts, including festivals and carnivals, possess remarkable power to unite communities and inspire individuals. Throughout our 131-year history, we have consistently backed platforms that celebrate cultural expression and social connection. Supporting Carnival Calabar & Festival represents our ongoing dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s cultural legacy through First@Arts,” Ijabiyi stated.
He added, “This year, we’re proud to debut the carnival’s first-ever private premium bleacher accommodating 500 guests. This exclusive section has been specifically engineered to deliver superior comfort and create memorable experiences for festival attendees.”
Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Calabar Commission, welcomed FirstBank’s participation. “Having FirstBank as a sponsor exemplifies meaningful private sector engagement with cultural tourism initiatives. Their partnership elevates the carnival’s production standards while expanding its international recognition,” Onah remarked.
Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025 is being commercially managed by Okhma Global Limited, designated as the event’s Official Marketer. The company handles brand collaborations, promotional activities, and ticketing operations. Okhma Global Limited has maintained a decade-long partnership with Cross River State government, contributing significantly to the carnival’s commercial development and worldwide profile.
