A Nigerian food entrepreneur, Amoke Oge, has achieved a significant commercial milestone, generating N2.3 billion in revenue through 500,000 deliveries on the Chowdeck food delivery platform, underscoring the rapid digitisation of Nigeria’s food service industry.
Hajia Amoke Odukoya’s business, Amoke Oge, which specialises in local Nigerian cuisine, reached the landmark figure based on an average order value of N4,600 per transaction. The achievement makes her the first woman-led business to complete half a million deliveries on the platform since joining as one of its initial 100 vendors in 2023.
Chowdeck CEO Femi Aluko personally visited the vendor to mark the occasion, highlighting the strategic importance of successful merchant partnerships for the Lagos-based startup. The platform announcement on X emphasised the mathematical significance of the milestone, allowing followers to calculate the substantial revenue figure independently.
The achievement reflects broader trends in Nigeria’s digital commerce sector, where an estimated 60 per cent of household income is allocated to food expenses. Chowdeck has positioned itself as a key beneficiary of this market dynamic, currently operating across eight Nigerian states with over 3,000 registered vendors and a network exceeding 10,000 delivery personnel.
The startup’s growth trajectory received institutional validation earlier in 2024 when it secured $2.5 million in seed funding from prominent investors, including Y Combinator, Goodwater Capital, and FounderX Ventures. The investment round also attracted backing from notable technology entrepreneurs, including Rappi co-founders Simon Borrero and Juan Pablo Ortega, alongside Paystack co-founders Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi.
This represents the second major vendor milestone announced by Chowdeck this month. On May 13, the company revealed that Korede Spaghetti, operating near the University of Lagos campus in Yaba, had processed N1 billion worth of orders through the platform, demonstrating the scalability potential for food vendors leveraging digital marketplaces.
The success stories highlight Chowdeck’s emergence as a significant player in Nigeria’s competitive food delivery sector, competing against established platforms while building a sustainable ecosystem for local food entrepreneurs. The company’s focus on supporting traditional Nigerian cuisine vendors appears to be resonating with consumers seeking authentic local dining options through digital channels.
For Amoke Oge, the milestone represents validation of the business model transition from traditional food vending to digitally-enabled operations, potentially serving as a blueprint for other local food entrepreneurs seeking to scale their operations through technology platforms.
