Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, has criticised state governors over rising insecurity, insisting they must take full responsibility for protecting lives and property within their domains.
He made the remarks while reacting to the abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The victims were taken during attacks on schools in Esinele, Yawota, and Alawusa communities on May 15, with the abductors reportedly demanding the release of detained terrorist commanders, ransom payments, two Hilux vans, and the implementation of Sharia-related law.
Speaking during a sermon, Mbaka urged the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to intensify efforts toward securing the release of the abducted children, stressing that governors should not shift responsibility to the federal government.
“The governor should do everything within his power to ensure the release of these children. Stop deceiving Nigerians by asking the President to come and find them,” he said.
Mbaka also questioned the use of security votes by state governments, arguing that such funds should be enough to tackle insecurity at the state level. He called for better cooperation among political leaders and warned against politicising security matters, while praying for the safe return of the victims.
