Nigeria has been ranked as the country with the lowest quality of life in the world for 2025, according to new global data released by World of Statistics on Sunday.

The ranking, sourced from Numbeo’s Quality of Life Index, places Africa’s most populous nation at the bottom of a list of 25 countries assessed across key indicators.

The index evaluates safety, healthcare, cost of living, climate conditions, and overall well-being, factors that continue to shape daily experiences for millions of Nigerians.

Despite being the continent’s largest economy, the country has struggled with rising inflation, insecurity, poor healthcare access, and worsening living conditions.

Following Nigeria on the list are Bangladesh, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Iran, and Peru — nations also grappling with economic and political instability.

The report, shared on X (formerly Twitter), has triggered heated reactions from citizens, activists, and policy analysts who say the ranking mirrors the harsh realities Nigerians face.

Many users described the report as a painful truth, pointing to increasing hardship, high cost of living, and a governance system that has failed to meet citizens’ basic needs.

Critics argue that while government officials frequently paint the picture of a rebounding economy, independent assessments continue to highlight the widening gap between official narratives and life on the streets.

Numbeo, one of the world’s largest crowd-sourced global databases, said the Quality of Life Index is a comprehensive measure of how safe, affordable, and healthy a country is for its residents.

As Nigerians continue to endure economic pressure, insecurity, and a weakening currency, the report serves as yet another reminder of the urgent need for policy reforms that prioritise citizens’ welfare over political interests.
