Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala , World Trade Organization Director-General has issued a public warning about a fraudulent AI-generated video circulating online that falsely uses her likeness.
In a statement alerting the public, Okonjo-Iweala confirmed that authorities are investigating the manipulated content and urged Nigerians to exercise caution.
“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she said.
The former Nigerian finance minister emphasized that she maintains an active presence on only one social media platform—Twitter/X—and does not use Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp.
“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” Okonjo-Iweala stated.
The warning highlights the rising threat of deepfake technology and impersonation scams targeting prominent figures, with artificial intelligence making it increasingly easy for bad actors to create convincing but entirely fabricated content featuring public personalities.
