The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Olori Ivie Atuwatse III, were received by King Charles III at St James’s Palace in London on Monday, following the 2026 Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey.
The couple attended the service alongside leaders and representatives from all 56 Commonwealth member states, with Queen Camilla and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey also among those present. After the service, the king hosted a reception at St James’s Palace, where he welcomed the Nigerian royal couple a moment captured in a video shared on the Olu’s Instagram page.
Ogiame Atuwatse III revealed that the invitation came through Botchwey following her earlier visit to the Warri Kingdom. He noted that Commonwealth Day is marked annually to unite member state representatives in reaffirming shared values of cooperation and development.
The Olu ascended to the throne as the 21st Olu of Warri in August 2021, having previously built a career across the legal and energy sectors. He holds a degree in international studies and political science, as well as a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University. Olori Atuwatse III is equally accomplished — a law graduate of the London School of Economics who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010.
Beyond her royal duties, the Olori has championed several community initiatives in the Warri Kingdom, including the Wuwu Ore medical outreach and the Royal Iwere Foundation, both of which advance maternal health, child literacy, and STEM education across the Niger Delta.
