An Oyo State High Court has issued an interim injunction preventing United Bank for Africa (UBA) from releasing money from thirty accounts belonging to Osun State local governments, opened by court-sacked APC chairmen and councillors.
Recall that the Attorney-General of Osun State, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, requested the injunction after the Federal Government’s decision to deposit seized statutory allocations for the councils into these disputed accounts.
The court, through Justice A.L. Akintola, ruled that a delayed intervention could cause “irreversible harm” to Osun State.
The matter has been adjourned to October 3, 2025, for further hearing.
The disagreement stems from a political dispute over the legitimate local government leadership.
APC have claimed that their chairmen and councillors elected in 2022 were restored by the Court of Appeal in February 2025, while PDP keeps insisting that their 2025-elected council leaders are legitimate.
The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has since condemned the release of funds into the disputed accounts, describing it as an abuse of power by Federal Government officials.
