Famous Gospel singer, Pastor Dunsin Oyekan, has ranted about the illegal upload of his song on digital platforms.
He recently expressed his displeasure after someone uploaded one of his songs on different music platforms without his permission.
Speaking via a post on his X handle, Oyekan revealed that after releasing the track titled, “Code of Worship” 4 years ago on a past album, he only just found out that someone else recently re-uploaded the same track on digital platforms without his consent.
According to him, he can only urge his fans all over the world to help bring down the illegal uploads on all digital platforms by reporting the content as soon as they come across them.
“My X folks, I need you to help report and bring down a criminal and illegal upload on all digital platforms. Someone released CODE OF WORSHIP again. I released it on THE GLORY EXPERIENCE album in 2022
Please wherever you find it, Report immediately. Thanks,” he said.
Pastor Dunsin is just another Nigerian singer calling out copyright infringements confronting creatives in the Nigerian music industry, and it is really not surprising to see that the Gospel music industry is not spared as well.
Over the years, several artists have regularly decried cases of illegal uploading of songs, especially veteran artists who saw most of their work released before the digital era was ushered in.
And even if the Copyright Act is meant to safeguard intellectual properties like music and movies, its poor implementation has rendered it ineffective for a very long time, leaving creatives at major risk of being taken advantage of.
Even when such infringements lead to court cases, the lengthy delay expected from such suits has made it an unattractive solution for various artists who are looking for a more straightforward resolution that will not waste their time and resources.
Luckily for musicians, though, digital streaming platforms are doing their bit to address illegal uploads and copyright breach problems quickly. They simply give copyright owners the sole power to issue a take-down order whenever their creative rights are infringed on. With such power, artists can immediately respond to illegal uploads, unlicensed samples, and other kinds of copyright breaches.
