The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area have been released.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, described the claims as false, misleading, and unsubstantiated, urging the public to disregard them completely.
The command specifically refuted viral messages suggesting that abducted pupils and teachers from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities had regained their freedom.
“Oyo Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the viral messages currently circulating across various social media platforms alleging that the pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota Communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state have been released by their abductors,” the statement read. “The Command states unequivocally that the claim is false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated.”
More than 40 schoolchildren and teachers were abducted on May 15 during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele; and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident triggered widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger security interventions.
The command assured residents that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies are continuing intensive efforts to secure the safe release of all abductees.
According to the police, all available human and operational resources are being deployed to ensure the victims are rescued safely and those responsible for the abduction are arrested and prosecuted.
The command further warned against spreading unverified reports capable of causing panic or disrupting ongoing security operations.
It urged citizens to rely only on official statements from the police and other authorised government agencies, while appealing for calm, vigilance, and continued cooperation from the public.
