Fenerbache manager Jose Mourinho has said that Manchester United’s decision makers are right to retain Ruben Amorim despite their disappointing season.
He recently shared that Amorim clearly needs time to implement his ideas at Old Trafford.
Speaking during an interview with Sky Sports, Mourinho stated that despite the impact that the lack of European football will have on MUFC’s finances, sticking with the manager is the way forward.
Jose revealed that he can relate to Amorim refusing to regret joining Manchester United mid-season because the same thing happened while he coached Porto in 2002.
According to him, he had a very difficult six months during that period, and the Portuguese club even struggled to qualify for the UEFA Cup, but the storm settled eventually, and they stunned everyone by winning the UCL in 2004.
“From what I read the impact [of losing Europa League final] on Man United, of course it is huge in the sense of how many years Man Utd is not involved in any European competition.
But at the same time it looks like they are supporting Ruben. They are giving him time and conditions to go forward.
I’ve read some quotes from him [Amorim] saying that he is happy that he came and had already these six months.
When I went to Porto the same happened to me. I went in January [2002], I had a difficult six months. We were struggling even to qualify for UEFA Cup and then it happened, what happened,” he said.
Jose Mourinho went on to guide FC Porto to a treble – Portuguese league, Portuguese Cup and UEFA Cup – in his first full season in charge.
He then defended the Portuguese league title, adding the Champions League trophy in the 2003-04 campaign.
