Human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, has called on the Nigerian Police to formally invite and question several high-profile political and security figures over the disappearance of activist Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.
Sowore specifically mentioned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, urging that they be questioned in connection with the unresolved case.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sowore expressed skepticism about the ability of the Nigerian Police Force to independently and fairly investigate the matter, particularly given the involvement of powerful political figures.
He instead demanded the establishment of a judicial commission of inquiry to take over the investigation, insisting that a former Inspector-General of Police and other top officials should also be summoned to account for their roles.
“I do not trust the IGP Monitoring Unit to investigate the disappearance and presumed killing of Dadiyata. They cannot be trusted to impartially investigate high-profile politicians and powerful interests,” Sowore stated, calling for a judicial panel.
He further insisted that El-Rufai, Ganduje, former DSS chief Yusuf Bichi, and former AGF Abubakar Malami should all be invited to clarify their possible involvement.
Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata, a lecturer and outspoken social media critic based in Kaduna, was abducted from his home by unidentified men nearly seven years ago and has not been seen since.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, had recently directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP Monitoring Unit to review a petition alleging the involvement of senior police officers in the case, as fresh calls for accountability continue to mount.
