The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Federal Capital Territory chapter, has suspended its three-month strike.
The association recently directed all members to resume work immediately from midnight, Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
This is coming after the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who ordered the use of 10 per cent of the Area Councils’ Internally Generated Revenue to pay off three months’ salary arrears owed to local government staff.
In a press statement issued following its State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the union’s secretariat in Gwagwalada, NULGE said it arrived at the decision “after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the minister, FCT traditional council, and other key stakeholders.”
According to the FCT NULGE Chairman, Abdullahi Kabi, the group will partner with a special committee constituted by the minister to harmonise all outstanding arrears within 14 days.
He concluded by saying that the aim is to ensure a holistic resolution via the National Assembly House Committee on FCT and ancillary matters.
“The union’s State Executive Council meeting, held on July 14, 2025, at the State Secretariat in Gwagwalada, Abuja, resolved to suspend the strike after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the FCT minister, traditional council, and other key stakeholders.
The union will engage with the Area Council chairmen to address outstanding issues, including the 40 per cent Peculiar Allowance, CONHESS/CONMESS and CONPSS salary adjustments, and other entitlements.
