The Action Democratic Party, ADP, has blasted the assault on the National Chairman of the African Alliance Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, by the monitoring team of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The party recently urged the Inspector General of Police to come out and explain the reason for the incident.
Speaking during an interview with the press, the ADP National Chairman revealed that Nigerians deserve to know why a citizen with rights was treated in such a manner.
According to him, well-meaning Nigerians must speak up to condemn the terrible act on a fellow citizen and demand respect for the rule of law.
He stated that the manhandling of Sowore by the IGP Monitoring Team is simply unacceptable.
Sani concluded by saying that Omoyele is a staunch advocate for democracy who deserves a lot more respect than he gets.
“How did Sowore sustain injuries while in police custody. Why was he assaulted despite making himself available to the police upon invitation?
The Inspector General of Police must provide a thorough explanation for this incident. Nigerians deserve to know why a citizen was treated in such a manner. We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to condemn this heinous act and demand respect for the rule of law.
Sowore, a vocal advocate for democracy, deserves respect and dignity. This incident undermines Nigeria’s image and echoes the dark days of military rule,” he said.
