President Bola Tinubu has officially accepted the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after emerging as the party’s candidate at the APC presidential primary held in Abuja.
The President was presented with the APC flag and certificate of return by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, during a ceremony attended by top party leaders, governors, lawmakers, and supporters.
Speaking after his emergence, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, governors, National Working Committee members, lawmakers, and party faithful for their support and confidence in his administration.
He described the moment as another important milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and pledged to continue implementing reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians.
Tinubu recalled how he emerged as the APC presidential candidate in 2022 and later became President with the backing of party members and Nigerians. According to him, the focus now is to consolidate the achievements of his administration and continue building a stronger nation.
The President said his government had introduced major economic and structural reforms, including new fiscal policies, tax reforms, and revenue improvement measures aimed at strengthening the country’s economy.
He highlighted some of his administration’s achievements, including the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which he said has disbursed over ₦282 billion to more than 1.5 million students.
Tinubu also pointed to efforts in the power sector, stating that the government had distributed 2.5 million electricity meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative and introduced a ₦4 trillion bond programme to settle outstanding debts owed to electricity generation and gas companies.
According to him, power generation under his administration has reached peaks of 6,000 megawatts, representing a significant improvement from previous years.
On the economy, Tinubu defended the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, saying the policies were necessary to stabilise the nation’s finances and attract investment.
He noted that despite inflationary pressures linked to global crises and tensions in the Middle East, Nigeria’s foreign reserves and economic outlook have improved.
The President further stated that his administration has prioritised infrastructure development through investments in roads, transportation, housing, digital connectivity, irrigation, airports, and seaports.
He added that reforms in the oil and gas sector have begun attracting billions of dollars in fresh investments.
Addressing insecurity, Tinubu acknowledged that security challenges still exist in parts of the country but assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property.
He disclosed that the government has increased investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance, modern security equipment, and support for the armed forces and police.
Tinubu also called on the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of state police, describing it as a matter of national urgency.
The President admitted that many Nigerians are facing economic hardship due to ongoing reforms but insisted that the government understands the challenges and is working to address them.
He promised that another four years of focused leadership would place Nigeria on a path of economic growth, industrialisation, energy security, food sufficiency, and stronger democratic governance.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united regardless of political or ethnic differences, stressing that democracy thrives through diversity and collective effort.
He also extended a hand of partnership to political opponents, saying national development should remain the priority above partisan interests.
The President concluded by reaffirming his commitment to building a more inclusive government that listens to the people and works in the best interest of all Nigerians.
Tinubu thanked APC members for nominating him as the party’s candidate for the January 2027 presidential election and prayed for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.
