President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over his first Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, which began at 12:35 PM, marks Tinubu’s inaugural gathering of the council since assuming office.
Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari are present in the meeting, while former heads of state Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar are participating virtually.
The Council of State plays a critical role in advising the executive branch on key policy-making decisions. The last meeting of this nature was held on February 10, 2023, under Buhari’s administration, primarily to address the upcoming 2023 elections, issues arising from the new naira redesign policy, and the fuel scarcity crisis.
