Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has said that he is still yet to come to terms with the club’s UCL final humiliation vs PSG.
He recently shared that he could not speak for days after the shocking defeat at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking during an interview, Martinez revealed that he could not believe how Inter Milan squandered a golden opportunity to win the Champions League again after several years.
According to him, it felt like the football gods were working overtime against his team because every single thing PSG tried on the night clicked for the French club.
Martinez stated that Inter Milan clearly failed to play as a unit in the final, so even if it’s hard to forget, the club has to move on.
“I can’t understand how it was possible to lose such a great opportunity in that way. I was sad, it was difficult to get to the bottom of the reasons, it took me five or six days to talk, I wanted to explain to my people.
That night nothing was possible and everything was possible for them: it wasn’t us, we weren’t a team. It’s football. And now however we have to move on, there is no other possibility, even if everything remains in the head,” he said.
Rallying the fans and his teammates, the Argentine striker noted that the club must turn the page and prepare for next season.
He concluded by saying that Inter Milan should channel the UCL pain into doing everything to win the Club World Cup.
“We have to turn the page and not think about what happened. I asked my team-mates to be strong in the head, I explained that in the USA we need one last effort before the holidays,” he added.
