The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied claims by Minister of Works, David Umahi, that negotiations are ongoing for the release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB recently described Umahi’s statement as “reckless, false, and contemptuous.”
Speaking via a press statement signed by the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB blasted the hilarious propaganda and insulting narratives suggesting that Kanu is seeking conditional release from the Nigerian government.
According to him, there is no negotiation ongoing that will lead to Kanu accepting a conditional release from FG’s detention, and the IPOB leader remains resolute in his demand for a United Nations-supervised referendum for Biafra’s independence.
He stated that Nnamdi Kanu is not a political mercenary or saboteur; therefore, he will not seek any compromise or rehabilitation to regain his freedom.
“There is no negotiation whatsoever that involves Mazi Nnamdi Kanu accepting any so-called ‘conditions’ from the Nigerian government. None. Absolutely none,” he said.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not a political mercenary, not a job seeker, and not a saboteur. He is a freedom fighter whose only demand is the right of Biafrans to determine their future through a plebiscite,” he said.
He further noted that the prolonged mistreatment the IPOB leader has experienced at the hands of the Federal Government is nothing but judicial terrorism, stressing that a man of Kanu’s calibre will never “grovel for release under ridiculous conditions.”
Addressing Simon Ekpa’s claim to be a Biafran government in exile, Emma revealed that the same man recently admitted to being a content creator.
He concluded by warning Umahi and other government officials to stop peddling false hopes, stressing that only a UN-supervised referendum can bring resolution to the agitation for Biafra.
“Let no one be deceived—Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will never abandon the struggle. His freedom must come through justice, not media manipulation or political gimmicks.
The Nigerian state is only deepening its crisis by continuing the illegal detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Injustice will only breed more resistance,” he added.
