The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, has confirmed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, though not an APC card-carrying member, has been a driving force behind the ruling party’s recent electoral success in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, Basiru drew a clear distinction between party membership and political alignment, asserting that Wike’s work ultimately serves the Tinubu-led APC federal government — and that distinction matters.
The APC chieftain pointed to the sweeping infrastructural transformation across the FCT over the past two and a half years as a key factor in the party’s victory in the recent local government elections. He noted that the development has reached well beyond Abuja’s city centres, touching suburban communities that have historically been overlooked.
Basiru described the minister’s track record as “sterling” and argued that such visible governance delivered real democratic dividends to residents — dividends he says directly translated into votes for the APC.
Beyond Wike’s performance, Basiru also credited the party’s own strategic groundwork, including deliberate candidate selection from across different political backgrounds, as contributing to the sweep.
“Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu,” Basiru stated, adding that the FCT minister’s administrative output cannot be separated from the party’s electoral outcome.
