President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil to commence a state visit.
BAT, who flew in from Los Angeles, U.S.A., was received by senior Brazilian government officials at the Brasília Air Base on Monday.
The officials included Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Ambassador of Brazil to Nigeria.
The country’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, was also at the Air Base reception.
Other Nigerian ministers, heads of key government agencies, and private sector members, who will partake in various bilateral talks and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signings, later welcomed Tinubu to his hotel.
The official welcoming ceremony with complete military honours will happen today at the Planalto Palace.
At the palace, Tinubu and the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will exchange pleasantries before participating in bilateral meetings alongside senior officials of both governments.
The leaders will witness the signing of MoUs and then speak at a joint press conference afterwards.
President Tinubu is expected to meet with the President of the Brazilian Senate at the National Congress, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, and the President of the Supreme Federal Court during the state visit.
BAT will also participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum as part of a packed schedule in Brasília on Monday.
Nigeria and Brazil have shared longstanding cordial diplomatic relations since the early 1960s.
The South American country is a major partner in Nigeria’s food security programme.
