A Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Deinde Dipeolu has convicted and sentenced Obayemi Oyetade for selling loud, a species of Cannabis Sativa popularly called India Hemp, in a hotel in Lagos State.

He was convicted and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment by the judge after he pleaded guilty to 3 counts of dealing in the prohibited drug, made against him by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), today, August 25, 2025.

NDLEA lawyer, Julianna Negedu, informed the court that Obayemi was apprehended on the 19th of July, 2025, at Sarah Sam Hotel, located at 115, Ogudu Road, Kosofe, Lagos, where he was selling the banned drug.

Negedu revealed that the convict was arrested with 22.9 grams of Canadian Loud, 1.30 kilograms of Chocolate infused with Canadian Loud and 900 grams of Gummies mixed with Canadian Loud.

According to the prosecutor, the convict’s crime goes against section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and is punishable under the same Act.

Admitting to his crime when the charge marked FHC/L/655c/2025 was read to him, Obayemi pleaded guilty, adding in his confessional statement that he has been selling the prohibited drug for 4 years.

After his guilty plea, Julianna Negedu urged the court to punish and sentence the offender accordingly.

Reacting, Obayemi’s lawyer, Emmanuel Okenyi, appealed to the court to tamper justice with mercy while sentencing his client.

Emmanuel begged the court to fine his client, instead of jailing him, especially because he pleaded guilty to the charge quickly and did not waste the court’s precious time.

In his judgment, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Obayemi Oyetade to 3 months imprisonment, ordering him to pay the sum of one million naira as a fine option in lieu of the jail term.
