On Thursday, 12 November 2026, the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration will break ground on a big industrial park for Lee Group near Sagamu. His government is calling it a new achievement, and laughably so.
Here is the simple truth. Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel’s administration brought Lee Group from Kano State to Ogun State around 2008 and 2009, long before Abiodun became a governor.
What then was the back story? The company was first in Kano State. About 57 Chinese companies were reportedly lined up to join it there. Then, the economic meltdown came, and many of those plans were abandoned. It was at that point that Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel’s administration brought the group to Ogun.
What is the park? It is a 450-hectare industrial site by the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near the Sagamu Interchange. The promoters say it will hold 29 factories and create 2,500 jobs.
Is it really new? Not entirely. The company’s “Chinese Industrial Park” has stood on that road for years. Anyone driving from Lagos toward Sagamu can see it on the left.
So what is Abiodun doing? He is holding a groundbreaking for a project that began under someone else. Think of a man who builds the foundation of a house. Sixteen years later, another man cuts the ribbon and says, “I built this.” That is not fair, and it is not honest.
Who deserves the credit? Convincing an investor to leave Kano and settle in Ogun is the hard part. Showing up at the ceremony is not. That credit belongs to Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel’s administration.
What about the land? Many people are asking whether a large part of the land first meant for the park later went to the governor or people close to him. This is a question, not a proven fact. The governor can end the talk by publishing the land records and showing who owns what.
What should citizens ask? What has Lee Group already built there? How many Ogun people work there today? Why does an old project need a brand-new launch?
Jobs and factories are welcome. But praise should go to the people who started the work.
