Hon. Donaldson Abiodun Ajayi, a Permanent Member of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has formally resigned from his appointment, amid indications that he is set to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he is expected to play a leading role in the 2027 campaign of Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.
Ajayi’s resignation is contained in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Oluseun Abiodun. In the letter, he formally tendered his resignation as a Permanent Member of SUBEB, with effect from the same date.
Explaining his decision, Ajayi said his resignation was principally borne out of his “emerging political responsibilities.” He noted that rather than finding himself in a position where he would have to balance competing responsibilities, expectations or political orientations, he considered it more honourable, responsible and principled to voluntarily relinquish his appointment.
The former SUBEB Permanent Member also made it clear that his decision was not borne out of dissatisfaction with Governor Abiodun, his administration or the Board. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Ogun State and reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, unity, progress and development of the state.
Set for Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello Campaign
Ajayi’s resignation has triggered political interest across Ogun State, particularly amid reports that he is preparing to dump the APC for the PDP and take up a prominent role in Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s 2027 campaign organisation.
His reported realignment is expected to strengthen the campaign’s political mobilisation as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum across the state.
The development comes at a time of increasing political realignments in Ogun State, with politicians and stakeholders repositioning ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.

While Ajayi’s resignation from SUBEB is confirmed by the letter, the document itself does not expressly state that he has resigned his APC membership or joined the PDP. His reported defection and proposed role in Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s campaign would therefore require confirmation from Ajayi or the relevant political parties.
