The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the BATOGD MOVEMENT Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour, led by Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has debunked a report alleging that the lawmaker used soldiers to intimidate residents during his recent empowerment programme in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
In a statement signed by Asegbe A. O on behalf of the LOC and the people of Ijebu-North Local Government, the committee described the allegation published under the headline, “Ijebu-North LG Lambasts OGD for Alleged Use of Soldiers to Intimidate Constituents as Military Launches Probe” as false, distracting, and a deliberate attempt to undermine genuine service to the people.
According to the LOC, the event in question, held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, was the sixth in a series of empowerment programmes already conducted across other Local Government Areas in the Ogun East Senatorial District. The programme reportedly provided financial support, tools, and materials to households, market women, youths, and small business owners in the community.
The organisers noted that the initiative was executed with transparency and compassion, aimed at restoring hope and improving livelihoods across the district. They stressed that the event was peaceful and successful, with many beneficiaries leaving the venue “in jubilation,” as reflected in videos and pictures shared online.
The LOC further praised Senator Daniel for what it described as “exceptional security consciousness,” noting that in an era of rising insecurity, including kidnapping, ritual killings, and violent crime planning, an event of such magnitude required careful safety measures.
“His concern and careful security planning during the programme reflect leadership grounded in responsibility,” the statement read. “It shows an unwavering dedication to protecting lives while advancing development.”
The committee accused unnamed political actors of sponsoring the allegation to score cheap political points and distract from visible progress in the region. It challenged security agencies to identify and probe the individuals behind what it called “unfounded claims.”
Reaffirming their confidence in Senator Daniel’s integrity and devotion to his constituents, the LOC urged the public to disregard the report.
“No single constituent was intimidated,” the statement concluded. “All attendees went home praising the initiative and acknowledging its positive impact.”
