Less than a day after Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals increased its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by N100 per litre, its partner outlet, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, along with NNPC Limited, has raised pump prices by the same margin.
A market survey conducted in Abuja on Tuesday showed that several filling stations adjusted their retail prices upward in response to the refinery’s move.
MRS and NNPC Retail increased their pump price from N875 per litre on Monday to N975 per litre. Meanwhile, AYM Shafa and AA Rano raised their prices by N80, moving from N880 per litre to N960 per litre.
On Monday, the refinery raised its PMS ex-depot price from N774 to N874 per litre, a development that has sparked concerns about a fresh wave of fuel price hikes nationwide.
A senior official at the refinery confirmed the increase, attributing it to volatility in the global crude oil market.
“The price has been reviewed. The new gantry rate is N874 per litre, up from N774. This adjustment was necessary due to changes in global crude fundamentals and rising replacement costs,” the official said.
Information from petroleumprice.ng indicates that the new pricing regime has already taken effect, suggesting a likely shift in downstream pricing benchmarks that could influence retail fuel costs across the country.
The increase followed the refinery’s suspension of petrol loading operations from midnight on March 2, 2026, after international crude oil prices climbed above $80 per barrel.
Industry sources disclosed that while PMS loading and issuance of proforma invoices were temporarily halted, diesel (Automotive Gas Oil) distribution continued without disruption.
The refinery’s decision has had a ripple effect in the downstream sector, with several private depot owners reportedly pausing petrol sales during the trading day.
