ExxonMobil has been awarded the ESG Leader of the Year award at the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference. The company recently received the award in recognition of its contributions to education, workforce development and inclusive growth via the STEM Africa initiative.
The program helps to create fresh opportunities for students across Africa, reflecting ExxonMobil’s dedication to empowering the next generation of Africa’s energy leaders.
Launched in 2024 by the ExxonMobil Foundation in collaboration with Junior Achievement Africa, STEM Africa has already reached over 3,000 students and educators across Nigeria, Namibia, Angola and Mozambique.
The initiative delivers immersive training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, equipping African youths with the required skills to thrive in the energy and technology sectors.
In its first year, 96% of participating students declared interest in pursuing STEM careers, proving the program’s ability to inspire ambition and bridge educational gaps.
According to the Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, NJ Ayuk, ExxonMobil deserves to be recognized for touching lives by building a skilled workforce that will drive Africa’s future energy development.
He concluded by saying that the company’s impact on the continent goes way beyond production volumes.
