FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC has launched a nutrition intervention programme at Ojodu Primary School in Lagos, supplying over 1,400 pupils with daily servings of Peak Yoghurt a drink made from locally sourced, 100% fresh milk as part of a broader push to tackle child malnutrition and promote healthy eating habits among Nigerian schoolchildren.
The programme was formally launched by Ali Ahmed Khan, President for the Middle East, Pakistan & Africa region at Royal FrieslandCampina, alongside FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Managing Director Roger Adou. Lagos State’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education was represented at the event by Adebayo Orunsolu, Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, while pupils, teachers, and officials from the State Universal Basic Education Board and Ikeja Local Government Education Authority were also in attendance.
At the heart of the initiative was an interactive nutrition awareness session designed to help children understand how dairy products support physical growth, brain development, and academic performance. This was followed by the distribution of Peak Yoghurt drinks, with the programme set to run daily from February 11 through February 28.
Khan framed the initiative within the company’s wider global mission, noting that proper nutrition lays the groundwork for children to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Adou echoed this sentiment, emphasising that investing in the dietary wellbeing of Nigerian children today is an investment in the country’s future.
The programme reflects a growing trend among food and beverage companies operating in Nigeria to move beyond product sales and engage directly with communities on public health issues — particularly child nutrition in underserved public schools.
