The organisers of the Edo 2020 Sports Festival that was suspended in March as a result of the rising effects of Covid-19 pandemic are eager to stage the sports festival at a later period of days this year.

They have recommended to the Hon. Min. Of Sports to approve October 28th to November 4th for the festival that will involve an estimated 12,000 young Nigerian athletes from all over the country, plus officials and other visitors coming for Africa's biggest domedtic sports festival.

The Games are scheduled to hold in Edo State, a place presently broiling with the politics of the gubernatorial elections coming up in September in the State.

The game's organisers claim that the Edo State government is prepared to host the games, and that the State already has in place Covid-19 facilities that can be used to test 10,000 persons everyday.

Such claims are hard to substantiate in Nigeria at the moment. The sports Festival is meant to serve as preparatory ground for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which has also been moved to 2021 due to the ravaging corona virus.

All the 36 states of the federation including FCT are expected to be ably represented at the festival if it gets the nod of the federal government to be staged in October.
