George Idumangi, a Nigerian man accused of murdering his friend Richard Ekpebu, an estate agent over a disputed N9M land deal, has been apprehended by police while trying to escape the country. Police recently confirmed that George was arrested in Lagos State and has since been taken to Bayelsa State, where he is expected to face trials for his alleged crime.
Investigations have revealed that the incident happened after a land transaction in which the late Ekpebu, acting as an agent, introduced George to buyers who paid N9 million for a piece of property.
However, after getting paid, George reportedly refused to hand over the land documents.
When Richard hassled George to honour the agreement and release the documents, George allegedly connived with his girlfriend, Victory Bernard Henry, to lure Ekpebu to a secret bush location where he was murdered.
According to reports, Victory received N1 million from the proceeds of the deal, and after the brutal murder, George tried to flee Nigeria before he was tracked and picked up by police officers in Lagos.
Confirming that George will face the full weight of the law for his crimes, Bayelsa State Police said that the investigations are still ongoing to determine the facts of the case and the extent of his accomplice’s involvement.
