Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has named His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment, announced Sunday by university Registrar Emmanuel Fanu, takes effect from February 13, 2026, for a five-year term that may be renewed once.
Oba Ogunsanwo succeeds Professor Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who completed his tenure as the university’s fifth Chancellor. The Lagos State Government and LASU community commended Elias for his service and dignified representation of the institution.
According to the statement, the governor made the appointment under powers granted by the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which authorizes the Visitor to name the university’s Chancellor.
The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new Chancellor and expressed anticipation for his leadership in furthering LASU’s vision and mission.
