Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is set to embark on another monumental culinary challenge, announcing plans to cook what could become the world’s largest single pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
The chef, who captured global attention in 2023 by setting the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, shared the ambitious update in a video posted to her Instagram on Monday.
In the detailed clip, Baci broke down the staggering scale of the project, which will require a custom-built pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres. Her goal is to fill the vessel to at least 80 per cent capacity.
“My goal is to fill this pot up by at least 75 to 80 per cent. That means I will need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice to achieve the yield,” Baci explained.
She calculated that this would translate to 264 bags of rice but announced a slight adjustment: “I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags.”
The recipe will also demand massive quantities of condiments, central to the dish’s iconic flavour. Baci disclosed that the cook will require approximately 1,583 kilogrammes of tomato paste to achieve the rich, spicy base characteristic of Nigerian jollof.
“For one kg of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian jollof, I’m going to use 0.30,” she stated.
Baci added that the tomato base would be a blend of tomato paste, pepper chicken paste, and jollof paste, promising to deliver the “most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted.”
The announcement has already sparked widespread excitement and discussion online, as fans eagerly await the official attempt to secure another landmark achievement for Nigerian cuisine on the world stage.
