The late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been laid to rest at his residence in Owo, situated within the Owo council area of the state. Akeredolu, who passed away in Germany on December 26th of the previous year at the age of 67, was transported to his ancestral home for his final rites.
His remains arrived in the state capital on Wednesday and were formally received by the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alongside members of the executive council, before being conveyed to Owo for burial.
Dignitaries from across Nigeria, led by President Bola Tinubu, paid tribute to the late Governor Akeredolu. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu was joined by state governors, ministers, law makers, prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, as well as top government officials and other notable figures at the funeral service held at Saint Andrews Cathedral Church in Imola, Owo, Ondo State.
